Ana Miriam Castro
recounts being at the center of the unrest with her young son through the fires, smoke, and violence.
βIt hurts. That man shouldn't have gone through that beating. That's unfair. But then to go, break, and steal from another person? That I don't agree with...
So I was holding my kid and I didn't know which way to go. I was on Western and Pico. All of that was full of people running away and breaking and stealing.
So I had to walk, I think, on Wilshire, to see if I could take a bus, but there were no buses. Everyone was running away in their cars, and I was running and walking with my kid. So for me, it was very impactful. Very harsh to see that.
I'll never forget that. I have those images in my mind.β
