KSP and UCLA Project Shown at LA UPRISING | SAIGU Peace Gathering

Friday, April 29, marked the 30th anniversary of the LA Uprising, honoring and remembering the Los Angeles civil unrest of 1992. KYCC, along with LA based community and faith organizations, brought Asian and Black civil rights leaders together to present the LA UPRISING | SAIGU Peace Gathering.

For the 30th anniversary of 4.29, the Koreatown Storytelling Program (KSP) partnered with the UCLA Department of Spanish and Portuguese, UCLA Department of Linguistics, and the Bresee Foundation on a 4.29 Story Map project where KSP and UCLA students interviewed community elders on their thoughts, experiences, and reflections of the 1992 civil unrest in our Los Angeles community. As a part of the cumulation of this project, we created a video highlighting the personal stories of people connected to the events of 1992 and it was shown at the Peace Gathering!

Representatives from across the country came togehter in solidarity to help remember and honor the moment Los Angeles experienced during the 1992 LA Uprising. Thank you to all of our community who joined us for this momentous occasion!
