KORYO-KSP Culmination 2024

Koreatown Organizing to Reduce Youth Opioid Use (KORYO) recently celebrated the culmination of an amazing year. In 2023, KSP partnered with KYCC’s Prevention Education unit to create KORYO, a youth advisory council focused on increasing and expanding KYCC’s capacity to provide youth with services for opioid use disorder and stimulant use disorder (SUD) in the Koreatown community, and reducing the stigma that presents a barrier to access for those affected.

Over the last year, KORYO youth learned about opioids, stimulants, SUDs, and recovery services. They conducted outreach within their community to share their knowledge and encourage others to learn more or seek support. We often discussed the stigma that people struggling with substance use face and how we can help reduce it. To combat this stigma, KORYO youth learned KSP’s oral history process and conducted oral history interviews with community members who have lived experience with SUDs and are now in recovery. We documented these untold narratives and consistently heard that recovery is possible! These beautiful and powerful stories will be published in KSP Vol. 4: KORYO very soon… Keep an eye out!

If you or anyone you know is struggling with substance use and is interested in talking to a counselor, please contact KYCC’s Recovery Services at (213) 365-7400.
