KSP visits Yupdduk for Tteokbokki!
Hello! My name is Hailey. I am studying Asian American Studies and Electronic Arts at CSU Long Beach and currently working as a Social Media Intern at the Koreatown Storytelling Program!
I’m going to be making reels this year as KSP investigates FOOD CULTURE IN KOREATOWN for our 2022-2023 school year program.
I chose Yupdduk as my favorite restaurant in Koreatown. When I was an elementary school student in Korea, I ate a lot of 떡볶이 (tteokbokki). Enough of it to say that it was a part of my daily life!
There was always a 포장마차 (pojang mocha—outdoor food stall) in front of my elementary school, and before I went to piano lessons, I always bought tteokbokki and ate it with my friends. The price was between 30 to 50 cents—unimaginably cheap now. And on lucky days, Ajumma(아줌마) gave me vegetable fries, seaweed rolls, or eggs for free.
Tteokbokki is Korea’s most famous street food and has now become well-known not only in Korea but also in the United States. I'm very happy to have Yupdduk in Koreatown. It’s especially known for it’s heat. 🔥🔥🔥
What’s your favorite tteokbokki place in K-Town?
