KSP x Radio Korea at the Getty25

On Sat., June 11, KYCC and KSP joined the Getty Museum’s celebration of Koreatown in honor of their 25th anniversary at Liberty Park. KSP students and interns teamed up to promote our program and talk to community members about the project goals and objectives of KSP.

In partnership with Radio Korea, KSP youth participants conducted five on-the-spot interviews of community members.

“KSP is honored that Radio Korea opened their doors to us so that we could document important community perspectives,” said Katherine Yungmee Kim, KSP Program Director. “We’re so fortunate that our students were able to record in the legendary radio station offices in K-Town.”

“What are your thoughts about our Koreatown community?” and “Do you live or work in Koreatown?” were some of the questions that we posed. Our narrators on Saturday included Dr. David Park who spoke about the Korean-Paraguayan diaspora and Mikki Paek, a Koreatown-based artist. KSP is working in real-time to gather and archive our important narratives.

Our narratives are held at the Los Angeles Public Library, the Library of Congress and the Korean Heritage Library at the University of Southern California.

Additionally, longtime KSP Youth Participant and Orange County High School for the Arts student Abbi-Hope Park held Korean Calligraphy workshops at the KSP booth as part of the Asian American Studies curriculum that she developed for K-12 educators.

Thank you to our KSP narrators for trusting us with your stories, Radio Korea for kindly sharing your space, and the Getty Center for organizing this amazing community event!
