Learning about Herbs & Acupuncture at South Baylo University
On Tuesday, February 11, KSP had the opportunity to tour South Baylo University LA, a graduate school in Koreatown that offers full accreditation in acupuncture and East Asian Medicine. Dr. Jun Woo Kim gave our students an overview of traditional Eastern medicine theory, learning about the five elements, Qi, and Yin Yang. He discussed the main differences in Eastern vs. Western medicine philosophy, explaining that while Western medicine treats symptoms, Eastern medicine looks holistically at the full person.
Then, we toured the clinic space where the University offers acupuncture services for the public. We also took a look at their herb collection, where they keep everything from mandarin peels to honeysuckle flower. Dr. Kim explained the various healing properties each herbal medicine is known for.
Thank you so much to South Baylo University and Dr. Kim for this incredibly informative tour! Throughout this year’s KSP cohort, our students have been exploring various traditional healing practices in our Koreatown community. Visiting South Baylo gave us a close-up look at acupuncture and herbal medicine, healing modalities that continue to be vital in our community.
